Hi everyone!:)
Okay so recently I saw a blog post about ‘things I wish I knew
when I was 15’ and it got me thinking about things I wish I knew before
secondary school. I suddenly realised that there was actually quite a few
things that no one prepared me for or told me about that I now know, and I thought
it would be a good idea to share it with everyone.
The first thing I wish I was told is that not everyone is
going to like you. I know it sounds like quite a horrible concept but it’s
true. When I started secondary school I thought I was friends with so many people,
and I really believed that I’d have those friendships forever. But as you grow
up you change, and so do the people around you, whether you like it or not and
eventually you will lose a lot of those friendships. One thing you should know
and remember though, is that although you may argue with some friends and best friend/s,
you might not even be in same friendship group by the end of year 11, but just
remember the ones that stick around through the arguments and the bad times are
the ones you should cherish!
Secondly, year 11 isn’t the only important year. Although
when you’re in year 7 year 11 seems a long way off, everything you do from year
7 to year 9 contributes massively towards your knowledge in the options you
choose at GCSE level and although all the tests and assessments you do may seem
like a waste of time, remember that they’re not and they help you and your
teachers massively to know what level you’re at and where you need help.
Teachers will always have your best intentions at heart!
Spend MORE time concentrating in school and LESS time
worrying about your reputation and what people think of you. The only opinion
that matters is your own! So unless you have an issue with your appearance etc
then you shouldn’t care if anyone else has something to say about it. Wear what
you want and do whatever you like, because if you’re scared of what people
think, the chances are that they don’t really care.
Lastly, don’t wish your life away!! I spent so much time
wishing I was older as a kid, and I regret that a lot. As a child you don’t
realise how much is done for you and you end up taking childhood for granted. I
would do anything to go back to the days of being a child and not caring about
my future or my grades; purely because I didn’t have to worry about it back
then. Enjoy being young while you can because although you get more
opportunities when you’re older, you also have a lot of responsibilities to
worry about.
So to sum it up remember who your true friends are, education matters A LOT, be confident in anything you do and enjoy being young!

Nice first post. May sound contradictory but from someone who has come from a varied history in education my belief is that you should be more intent on experiencing life as fully as possible. Grades may be important at some level but nothing is unrectifiable and it's OKAY to not know what you want to do in your life. Otherwise I'd say the rest rings true.
